Recruiting: Jake Reed's Nike Blue Chip Rising Sophomores

Ty Xanders - 6/27/2014

Wilson Hand, M, Briarwood (Ala.) - After hearing high praise for what seems like years, it was great to watch the Alabama native, and I'd bet that many of the nation's more prominent programs are doing whatever they can to lock down his services. If he touches up on a few aspects of his game, he'll be a great player in college. Hand is a big, creative dodger down the alleys and scores some great goals, also staying on his man playing tough D as well.

Recruiting: 2017 Nike Blue Chip Standouts

Casey Vock - 7/22/2013

Wilson Hand, Midfield, Briarwood, Alabama - So excited to have seen this kid in person, as he could likely put Alabama lacrosse on the Division I map in terms of recruiting. Hand has good size at 5-10 or 5-11 and about 175 pounds, looking far more developed athletically than many of his peers. But it's his relentless style of play and his surprisingly well-developed stick skills that really help him on the field. He's hard nosed, playing with a hefty chip on his shoulder, demonstrated by very aggressive play in the midfield when going after ball carriers and loose balls. He's got thick legs and really had no problem fighting through checks and getting down the lanes to unload with a hard shot, showing excellent motion and getting his body into the shot. He looked slick with both his right and left hands. He showed some serious goal scoring ability, putting up several points in each game. On one play, he cleared the ball coast to coast by himself (he plays very tough defense, as mentioned already), running through X, going righty, getting past GLE and yanking a sidearm shot top shelf on the run. Impressive stuff, and there was a lot more from him in the couple games I saw. He stood out in every role, from the wings on face-offs, to initiating up top (showed smart passing), to defense. This is a kid wild animal who all recruiters will want to see when the opportunity presents itself. This kid dropped 37 goals and 13 assists as an eighth-grade varsity player, earning All-State honors. Also a football player, Hand plays summer ball for the club program Bamalax.
